NH School Scoop Special Edition - June 5, 2025
The House passes a “bell to bell” school cellphone ban.
📵 In an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote, the New Hampshire House voted 314-42 to prohibit the use of personal digital devices by public school students during the school day, with no exceptions for instructional activities. School districts must provide students with necessary digital devices during class, as personal cellphones, tablets, laptops, and digital watches are entirely prohibited. Exceptions are made for personal devices used to support students with special education and medical needs.
The Senate must approve several House edits to this bill, but most agree that SB 206 will soon arrive on Governor Ayotte’s desk, and she will almost certainly sign it. The bill is set to be in effect 60 days after final approval, which would be in plenty of time for the 2025-26 school year.
Megan Tuttle, President of NEA-New Hampshire, has expressed her full support for this bill. This afternoon, Governor Ayotte also applauded the legislature’s action on SB 206.
We’ll have more on this issue in Tuesday’s Scoop.
