Frank Edelblut steps down as NH Education Commissioner. The search begins for his replacement.
“Commissioner Frank Edelblut has led the way in making our state’s education system more innovative and forward-thinking, and he has played a key role in expanding educational opportunities for families,” stated Governor Ayotte in announcing that the Commissioner will complete his term and then retire from the position. Ayotte mentioned that Edelblut will continue in “holdover status” to support schools through the end of the school year.
Meanwhile, we are hearing from Democrats who feel that Edelblut pushed a right-wing agenda and weakened educational standards.
The search for his replacement will begin immediately, and the Governor says they will work toward a seamless transition to the next Commissioner.
This afternoon, on Edelblut’s X feed, the Commissioner stated:
Since 2017, I have been a champion of children & families, ensuring they have educational opportunities leading to bright futures. This live free & learn approach has been the catalyst for all kinds of choice options, including our public schools, non-public schools, public charter schools, open enrollment schools, innovation schools, Learn Everywhere programs and learning pods, to name a few. Although I will be completing my term in office, which ends Sunday, I will continue in holdover status while a search begins for my replacement. I am deeply grateful to my colleagues across New Hampshire & the nation who have joined me in expanding pathways to education & advancing learner-centered opportunities. While there is still work ahead, I look forward to partnering with Governor Ayotte to ensure the Department remains steadfast in its vision to ‘Live Free and Learn.’
The Scoop will closely monitor the search for Edelblut’s replacement and provide regular updates.
